Car Importation From Japan to Europe (and maybe even further)

So you want to Import a car from Japan? Good.

Before explaining the process and how much it costs let me answer the most common questions:
1) There are LHD European cars in Japan
2) There are no LHD Japanese cars (with very few exceptions)
3) We only offer process of importing your desired car from the Auction site or Dealership in Japan to You.

How much does it cost?

Let’s make it simple and split the equation in parts:

  1. Cost of the car
  2. Expenses in Japan (transport from Auction site to storage, de-registration, putting in the container, delivery of the container to the port, customs and port charges) normally costs around 250 thousand yen. (around 1700 euro)
  3. Sea Transport (depends on the geopolitical situation, time of the year, holidays, weather and mood of transport companies) can be 1500 euro can be 3000 euro.
  4. Customs cost – 10% from the cost of parts 1+2+3
  5. Our import fee 900 euro (our fee 500 eur + 400 unloading, customs broker, transport to our store, preparation to shipping to you etc.)
  6. VAT 21% (doesn’t apply when purchasing to a company)

So lets assume we have bought a Nissan Skyline R34 Coupe with RB25DET

  • The cost is around 3 million yen (1)
  • Then 250k yen fees in Japan (2), converting it all to Euro we get a cost of 20967 euro in a container (currency conversion 155 jpy = 1 eur),
  • Add 1500 euro transport (3) to get a price before customs 20967+1500 = 22467 (1+2+3)
  • Add 10% (4) to a current price makes it 24714 euro
  • Our fee 900 (5) Makes it 25614 euro

And the final price is 25614 Euro + 21% VAT making it almost 31000 euro if you are buying it for a personal use.

Now do the same with something cheaper

1998 Toyota Crown Which price is 200k yen.

200.000 + 250.000 = 450.000/155 = 2903 2903 +1800 = 4700 4700 + 470 (10%) = 5173 5173 + 900 = 6073

So total price is 6073 + 21% VAT = 7350 Euro for a car landed in Riga.

How much time it takes?

Usually we try and import cars along with our parts containers which leave every 2 months from Japan. So the time for getting your car is 4-5 months from Japan. However if we manage to fit many cars into one container the time might be reduced to 3.5-4 months.

What if I don’t live in Latvia?

Well don’t worry about it! Most of our customers are from abroad, we are just JDM enthusiasts that are located in Latvia but working worldwide. There are 3 options we can offer:

  1. Import to us, register (only years 2000 and under) and ship to you.
  2. Import to us and ship to you by land.
  3. Export from Japan straight to your location if you wish to purchase many cars at once or if you have Ro-Ro (special ships that carry cars) ports available.

With first 2 options we can ship your car around Europe in many places with costs varying from 300-600 euro in many cases our prices are friendly and reasonable for buyers to go through us rather than local importers that may charge more.

What is the payment process?

Good question.

  1. When bidding on the car we ask you to transfer us a full amount you are willing to bid + expenses in Japan (250k yen) (before we bid)
  2. When the container is loaded and we have a transport cost known we will calculate the transport cost for you + our fee that you transfer. (before the container leaves)
  3. When the container arrives we calculate approximate amount of customs and taxes (if applicable) which you transfer within 2 weeks before the container arrival.  (before the container arrives)

If exporting the car to you from Japan directly (1-2 are the same)

  1. When bidding on the car we ask you to transfer us a full amount you are willing to bid + expenses in Japan (250k yen) (before we bid)
  2. When the container is loaded and we have a transport cost known we will calculate the transport cost for you + our fee that you transfer. (before the container leaves)
  3. This part is different, customs and taxes are paid by you, we can only assist with necessary papers that you will need to register a car etc.

How do we start?

On the right lower corner there are contact options Whatsapp or Facebook messenger, just throw us a message and lets import something Legendary. 😉
